Joshua gave a stiff warning to those watching as the city of Jericho laid in waste he said, “At that time Joshua made this solemn declaration: “The man who attempts to rebuild this city of Jericho will stand condemned before the Lord. He will lose his firstborn son when he lays its foundations and his youngest son when he erects its gates!” – Joshua 6:26
Basically what Joshua warned to those looking on, is that this wall was brought down by God. It was impeding the way for the children of Israel to possess the land God has promised. If in fact some one tries to rebuild, it would then impact their children, like a generational curse.
Many of us have walls in our lives that we have pleaded with God to remove. For some He has, and we experience victory and freedom to move forward to the lands He has promised. But, then there are those of us who attempt to rebuild those walls, or refuse to tare down the walls God has removed that block us from freedom, and experiencing the best life we can possibly have in Him. Unwilling to see and surrender those bricks. They even end up being re-erected in the lives of our children, and loved ones watching us pick those same bricks up day after day, week after week, relationship after relationship, addiction after addiction, brokenness and pain. Not realizing we are preparing the eventual fall and destruction of the generation behind.
Let’s take Joshua’s advice, and if God has given us the victory, the power to overcome, if He has defeated the enemies that prevented us from experiencing success, let’s not go back and rebuild our own prisons, and set traps for our children and their future. Put the bricks down, and follow the captain out of the City that lay waist. If we have failed to allow him to even take possession of the city, and fight Him to try and keep control of the walls that have already proven to be week, let’s surrender and live.
God’s promise is that He has something much better for you on the other side. Cities that will be for your betterment, and not for your brokenness. The NEW CITY will have walls as boundaries of protection, not walls of pain, built by the mighty hands of God, not the week motives of man. Not Just for your good, but for the good of those that follow after you as well.
Genesis 17:8, “I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”
Deuteronomy 6:10, “Then it shall come about when the LORD your God brings you into the land which He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you, great and splendid cities which you did not build,”
