#thewallsofjerichowillcomedown – The Walls of Distraction & Discouragement
Did you know that the walls of Distraction and Discouragement are very close cousins. There are many times in life those two walk hand and hand, to keep us from accomplishing what our goals and what God has called us to do.
In Numbers 13, the Children of Israel had made it through some of the most trying and devastating circumstances on their journey to the promise land. God had defeated armies, and the elements of nature for them to reach the very gate of their given home, and when it came to enter into that land, 10 out of the 12 men chosen from each of the tribes, sent in to spy out the land, came back with an EVIL report. Another way saying that is a DISCOURAGING report. There were only 2 who were willing to give a distinct and honest report not based on fear but on FAITH. God had given them the call to enter and TAKE the land. Key word here is, “TAKE”. He never said that it was going to be given to them without having to put in work. But, when they saw the giants in the land, it caused them to be distracted from the mission. That distraction made them look to themselves and not to the GOD who had brought them through some of the most IMPOSSIBLE circumstances.
It is very important to be careful to not forget the AMAZING trials that God has allowed you to make it through. If you doubt that you have any, the fact that you are alive proves that you indeed have. You could choose to allow the surrounding circumstances to distract you from the goal at hand, or whatever land God has told you that you are to occupy. Perhaps that is your family, your job, your education, your neighborhood, your ministry, etc. But, whatever He has called you to, He has surely provided you with the wisdom and the help you need to take the land. Don’t allow DISTRACTION, the perceived barriers and giants in the land, to prevent you from moving forward. Trust God and don’t let distraction cause you to see things that aren’t there. Hold fast to God’s promises and walk into the land He has promised, knowing He will equip you and provide the weapons needed to overcome the enemies! Don’t be DISCOURAGED by your weaknesses, but let them caused you to run boldly toward the FATHER, and allow Him to equip you with what is needed to face each task.
Numbers 14:7-9, “They said to the whole community of Israel, “The land we explored is very good. If the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us. This is a land flowing with milk and honey! Don’t rebel against the Lord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. We will devour them like bread. They have no protection, and the Lord is with us. So don’t be afraid of them.”
